2015 Reading Challenge Stress!

From December 2013 to May of 2014 I was in a reading slump. It was the worst reading slump of my life, I wanted to read but nothing I picked up kept my attention for long. I went weeks without picking up a book and it was stressing me the hell out, why? Because of my stupid Goodreads reading challenge.

Every time I logged into Goodreads that stupid thing in the corner would constantly remind me that I was woefully behind in my challenge, and I hated it but I just couldn't read. Then when I finally came out of my slump I was on a mad dash to catch up to be ahead of my challenge, if it was on Goodreads I would read it. Watching that progress bar go up helped me breathe easier. I got so caught up in that challenge that I forgot, that my whole world wasn't going to end because I didn't read the 72 books I challenged myself to.

I know all that stress I put myself under last year was totally and completely due to my competitive nature, and it was also my competitive nature that forced me to up my challenge this year to 95. On the last day of 2014, the challenge of 95 books felt good, felt like a great challenge now on January 28, 2015 it feels like a curse.

I was four books behind, and I could feel the pressure starting to build, so I knocked my challenge down to 50 books. Last year no matter how I struggled, no matter the stress I refused to lessen my challenge, which was stupid. Reading should always be fun, and I’m having fun reading so far this year. I’ve only read two books so far and for once I’m okay with that, I’m enjoying picking up random books and reading a couple of pages from them, I’m enjoying reading fanfiction, I’m ENJOYING READING and there’s no pressure with that. If I read 50 books this year that would be great, if I read only 10 books this year that’s also great. So now that I’ve eliminated the pressure my reading this year should be awesome!

Bout of Books Challenge #2: New Year’s Resolution

I made this list like a couple of days ago so its not technically for the challenge but oh well! So here are my 2015 Reading Resolutions!

1. Read 95 books

I read 72 last year so hopefully this won't be to hard to accomplish!

2. Continue to read books out of my comfort zone

Last year, I made it my mission to read books out of my comfort zone to try other books that wasn't just young adult books, and I did pretty well so this year I just want to expand on what I started in 2014!

3. Read at least 2 classics

For my English class last semester I read a couple of classics that I actually enjoyed, one I even consider to be one of my all time favorite now, so I want to read so more.

4. Read less YA, and gives other genres a chance

This one is pretty much exactly like #2

5. FINISH A Game of Thrones

I started it at the end of 2013 made it about 25% in then put it down, it was great so I have no idea why I haven't finished it

6. Target large Ebook TBR

My Ebook TBR is so large, its a shame!!

7. Do as many challenges as possible on the 2015 challenge

I found a list of 50 book challenges to do this year (I'll post it later) the goal is to do as many as possible & it will help me read so books out of my comfort zone. Hopefully.

8. Participate in bout of books and actually read!

LoL, When I fist tried to do Bout of Books last summer, I read fanfic! I think I read only two books on my TBR, I was a little disappointed in myself because I really wanted to participate and actually read the books, but fanfic is addicting so I wasn't that disappointed!

The Waking Dark - Robin Wasserman

They called it the killing day. Twelve people dead, all in the space of a few hours. Five murderers: neighbors, relatives, friends. All of them so normal. All of them seemingly harmless. All of them now dead by their own hand . . . except one. And that one has no answers to offer the shattered town. She doesn't even know why she killed—or whether she'll do it again.

Something is waking in the sleepy town of Oleander's, Kansas—something dark and hungry that lives in the flat earth and the open sky, in the vengeful hearts of upstanding citizens. As the town begins its descent into blood and madness, five survivors of the killing day are the only ones who can stop Oleander from destroying itself. Jule, the outsider at war with the world; West, the golden boy at war with himself; Daniel, desperate for a different life; Cass, who's not sure she deserves a life at all; and Ellie, who believes in sacrifice, fate, and in evil. Ellie, who always goes too far. They have nothing in common. They have nothing left to lose. And they have no way out. Which means they have no choice but to stand and fight, to face the darkness in their town—and in themselves.
